The lack of practice time for Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams so far this week would appear to significantly decrease their hopes of playing in the San Francisco 49ers' Week 7 clash with the Minnesota Vikings.
However, head coach Kyle Shanahan is not at the point where he is ready to rule any of the trio out for Monday's primetime contest.
McCaffrey (oblique) and Samuel (shoulder) each left last Sunday's gut-wrenching loss to the Cleveland Browns through injury. All-Pro left tackle Williams battled through an ankle problem. None of the trio have practiced so far this week, though running back McCaffrey was seen working on a side field on Friday.
All three players, who were each labeled 'day-to-day' earlier in the week, carry huge importance to the offense, which struggled to get anything going in the second half against the Browns without the uncertainty McCaffrey and the similarly ultra-versatile wide receiver Samuel can put in the minds of opposing defenses.
McCaffrey's ability to at least do some individual work can be construed as a positive, while Williams was seen in the locker room after practice without the walking boot he wore following the loss to the Browns, though he was said to moving with a pronounced limp.
Shanahan is not giving up hope of any of the three featuring on Monday, pointing to the extra day to recover as potentially being key in getting them back in the lineup.
He told KNBR on Friday: "None of them could practice today because of their injuries. We're not ruling them out for this week.
"When we say day-to-day, that means we're waiting each day to see how they come in the next morning because they don't have stuff to where they for sure can't play. They have chances to recover here.
"They're getting closer, but they haven't been good enough to get out there and practice yet."
