Speak to anyone who sits on the east side of Levi's Stadium and they will tell you how hot it can get at the San Francisco 49ers' Santa Clara home.
The conditions figure to be especially difficult for fans and players alike during Sunday's Week 5 clash with the Arizona Cardinals, which will take place amid the backdrop of a heatwave in the Bay Area.
An excessive heat warning remains in place and temperatures in Santa Clara could reach 100 degrees.
The 49ers attempted to take a step to combat the impact of the heat on their players by wearing all white jerseys rather than their home reds.
However, that plan was foiled by the league, leading the 49ers to compromise.
San Francisco will instead wear its home throwback uniforms with white pants.
"We asked on Monday, and we weren't allowed to do it," head coach Kyle Shanahan told his Friday press conference of the planned move to all-whites.
"You had to [request] it before the season started. So in order for us to do it, we've kind of got to make like a conscious decision or a commitment before the year that we wear all whites until like the middle of October or whatever, and then go to normal. But it's not usually this hot, so we'll probably do that now just in case.
"We've never known in advance how hot it was going to be. And honestly, since I've been here, it never seems too hot. I feel like, even on the hottest days, I still need a hoodie at some time during that day. But this week has felt different, and I truly believe Sunday is going to [be very hot].
"So it's the first time we've really looked into it, and I think that's (committing to all-whites before the season) been a rule for a little bit. We just had to get reminded on it."
So the 49ers will have to make do and hope it's not quite as hot as expected. The 49ers are the clear favorites against the Cardinals after getting back to 2-2 last week with a blowout win over the New England Patriots. However, Arizona will be wearing their all-whites. As far as potential equalizers go, that is among the more unconventional.
