In an absolute must-win against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers appear to have a chance of getting Nick Bosa back on the field.

The 49ers' star pass rusher, who has missed the last three games through hip and oblique injuries, was listed as questionable for Thursday's Week 15 matchup, on which San Francisco's playoff hopes effectively hinge, after being labeled as limited for Wednesday's walkthrough.

Bosa did not take part in the 49ers' sole official practice ahead of the game on Tuesday, but he would seem to be in a much better position to make his return after a frustrating spell on the sideline.

But Trent Williams' absence from an ankle injury will stretch into a fourth straight game, the All-Pro left tackle once again ruled out. Jaylon Moore is primed to deputise in his absence once again.

And the 49ers will also have to deal with a surprise setback, with standout rookie safety Malik Mustapha also ruled out because of chest and shoulder injuries. Guard Ben Bartch is listed as out with a high ankle sprain and will likely go on injured reserve before the game.

With Mustapha out, the 49ers will either pair All-Pro Talanoa Hufanga with Ji'Ayir Brown or Tashuan Gipson. Brown was essentially benched for the returning Hufanga last week after some up and down play. Gipson started next to Hufanga in the 2022 season and most of 2023 prior to the latter's ACL injury in Week 11 of that season. In such a key game, it would be no surprise to see the 49ers elect to lean on Gipson and Hufanga's familiarity rather than relying on Brown.

Rookie running back Isaac Guerendo, meanwhile, still has a shot of making a second straight start despite suffering a foot sprain in a hugely impressive performance in his first. Guerendo went for 128 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in the 38-13 blowout win over the Chicago Bears. He also did not practice on Tuesday but is listed as questionable.

If he cannot go, then Patrick Taylor Jr. will be in line to the get the lion's share of the workload in the backfield.

Also questionable is linebacker Dre Greenlaw, hoping to make his long-awaited return from the torn Achilles he suffered in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers had previously identified this game as the most likely date for his comeback and the fact he has not yet been ruled out is a positive sign that he will indeed be able to end his long absence.

Should Greenlaw return, then he will likely take Bartch's place on the roster. If not, then the 49ers will not be short on linebacker options beyond Fred Warner and De'Vondre Campbell, with Dee Winters (ankle) and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (knee) both cleared to play. NFC Defensive Player of the Week Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) is also off the injury report following his three-sack game against Chicago.
