The clock is ticking for the 49ers as they look to get Nick Bosa signed to a contract extension before the start of the regular season.

With a little over two weeks to go before the Niners play their first game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, they would be forgiven for getting concerned about a potential lack of readiness on Bosa's part amid his holdout.

Yet if the 49ers have any such worries, they continue not to show them.

Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was asked about whether Bosa is missing anything significant by not being in the building. His response was short and to the point.

"I think, you guys have been around here longer than I have and I’ve seen it from afar, but I think he’ll be fine when he gets here," said Wilks.

Recent reports suggest Bosa should be in the building with a contract that could make him the highest-paid defender in the NFL before the regular season begins.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero told The Rich Eisen Show (h/t 49ers Webzone):

"They continue to talk. [They have a] mutual goal of getting this thing done before the start of the regular season. His fines are rescindable. There's no reason that he shouldn't be a very, very rich man prior to the start of the season."The question is just how do they get the numbers potentially above Aaron Donald, which is where Bosa is going to want to be? It's 31-plus million dollars per year. It's a huge chunk of change. Bosa is also a difference maker. A lot of reasons to believe they'll find a way to get things done, but his agent's tough, Brian Ayrault, and we'll see exactly where those negotiations go."

With the two sides motivated to make sure Bosa is on the field Week 1, a resolution is an inevitability. As has been the case throughout the protracted contract negotiations, it's simply a question of how much longer the inevitable is delayed.
