There were plenty of people taking victory laps on social media as Brock Purdy endured the worst game of his San Francisco 49ers career on Christmas Day.

Purdy threw four interceptions as the Niners suffered a 33-19 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football in a battle of the NFL's two number one seeds.

Among those to seemingly take delight in Purdy's struggles, which look to have cost him the MVP award, were Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons and 2015 league MVP Cam Newton.

Newton had previously described Purdy as a "game manager" and sent a post on X (formerly Twitter) clearly referring back to those comments as Purdy endured a nightmare primetime outing.

Parsons also took the opportunity to fire criticism in the direction of Purdy, who has twice beaten the Cowboys in his career and dissected the Dallas defense in the 49ers' 42-10 rout their NFC rivals in Week 5.

Speaking on his weekly segment on 'Up and Adams', a bemused Samuel was quick to point out that context as he fired back at both Parsons and Newton.

"First of all, Cam Newton, stop texting my phone, bro," Samuel said. "You was a fan like two weeks ago. That's mad crazy. You wanted me on your podcast after talking about my quarterback, which is funny to me.

"But back to Micah Parsons. Bro, we beat you [42-10] a long time ago. I don't get why he's so bothered about what we got going on over here or whatever the case may be."

Attempting to explain why so many were critical of Purdy in his first below-par performance since Week 8, Samuel added: "It's the Niners. It's the effect we have on everybody.

"Nobody wants to see us win, and they all quick to point fingers when things don't go the way they're supposed to go. Everybody knows we're still the best team in the league. It's just crazy how much they try to bring him down. I mean, the guy still threw for 255 [yards].

"It's the NFL, it's going to happen. You can't control how tipped balls fly 25, 30 feet in the air and just giving guys opportunities to catch them."
