The San Francisco 49ers' defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 was Deebo Samuel's last in the jersey the NFL is accustomed to seeing him wear.
From the 2024 season, Samuel will no longer wear the number 19 on his jersey.
Instead, he is going back to his college roots, and donning the number one he wore during his superb career at South Carolina.
Additionally, Samuel will now have 'Samuel Sr' on the back of his jersey. His son was born in December 2021 and shares the first name as his father, Tyshun.
Samuel posted a mocked up image of him wearing his new number on Instagram, but the 49ers soon went one better, with their equipment staff working quickly to reveal how the new jerseys will look.
It's certainly a cleaner look for the NFL's most versatile receiver, who will hope that, after experiencing two Super Bowl defeats to the Chiefs in his career, he and the Niners will be the NFL's undisputed number one come the end of next season.
