The San Francisco 49ers held a formal interview with Kool-Aid McKinstry at the Combine, but they won't get to see the Alabama cornerback work out.
Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, a medical evaluation in Indianapolis revealed McKinstry had a Jones fracture in his right foot.
As such, he will not go through the on-field drills at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Instead, McKinstry plans to work out at his pro day in Tuscaloosa. Given their apparent interest in him, the 49ers figure to be there in some capacity.
Despite the injury, McKinstry is expected to be ready for training camp.
Seen as one of the top corners in the draft and a potential first-round pick, McKinstry was recently mocked to the Niners by ESPN's NFL draft guru Mel Kiper at 31st overall.
Whether McKinstry, one of the stingiest corners in college football during his career with the Crimson Tide, will even last that long on night one in Detroit is debatable.
But if the 49ers are in a position to add him to a secondary that already features two impressive starters in Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir, then at least they know his injury will not prevent him from getting the reps in to be ready to form a potentially formidable trio in the defensive backfield.
