The San Francisco 49ers were hopeful of getting All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams back in practice on Friday ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. That did not happen.
Williams missed the third and final session of the 49ers' preparations for a crucial NFC West clash, but will be given every opportunity to prove he can play, with San Francisco listing him as questionable on their final injury report.
Indeed, head coach Kyle Shanahan said will "have all the way up until kickoff" before a final decision is made on his availability.
If Williams is unable to go, swing tackle Jaylon Moore would step in.
Further concern on the left side of the line comes in the form of a thigh problem for guard Aaron Banks.
Banks sustained the injury in practice this week. He is also listed as questionable, as is veteran interior lineman Jon Feliciano (knee). Feliciano had his practice window opened before last week's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but is yet to be activated to the 53-man roster.
Should Feliciano be kept off the roster for another week and Banks prove unable to play, then Spencer Burford would be the favorite to take the left guard role.
There is better news on the defensive line. Nick Bosa returned to practice after missing the first two sessions of the week with the hip pointer he played through last Sunday. In addition, Yetur Gross-Matos is set to be activated back to the 53-man roster after once again practicing in full.
Gross-Matos has missed the last five games with a knee injury he initially suffered in preseason. His return will be key in taking some of the strain off Bosa and fellow starting defensive end Leonard Floyd, as well as providing some help on the interior with his ability to pass rush from the inside. The 49ers' interior D-Line will again be without Kevin Givens due to a groin issue.
To make way for Gross-Matos, the 49ers will likely place punter Mitch Wishnowsky (back) on injured reserve, Shanahan said. The 49ers this week signed Pat O'Donnell to the practice squad and, with Wishnowsky out, he will punt against the Seahawks.
Tight end George Kittle is listed as questionable but appears set to play despite some hamstring irritation that kept him out of Wednesday's practice. Jauan Jennings, limited on Thursday with an ankle issue, is off the injury report, as is running back Christian McCaffrey ahead of his second game back from Achilles tendinitis.
Darrell Luter Jr. is a doubt with a pelvis injury sustained in practice. Fellow cornerback Charvarius Ward will miss a second straight game as he remains away from the team following the death of his one-year-old daughter.
