49ers sign Pro Bowl DL Javon Hargrave in NFL free agency
The 49ers have signed arguably the NFL’s top free agent.
The San Fransisco 49ers had one of the NFL's best rosters in 2022 and that's expected to hold through, for the most part, in 2023.
And, the chances of that just got even better after the 49ers reached an agreement with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Javon Hargrave on a four-year deal worth $84 million that includes $40 million at signing, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hargrave was expected to command heavy interest, thus leading to a heavy contract. Not many expected the 49ers to be a suitor, however, due to their cap situation. San Fran had just a little under $4 million in cap space entering the legal tampering period.
Hargrave makes the 49ers' front seven even scarier than it was in 2022, which is absolutely terrifying to think about. He and Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa are bound to wreak havoc in 2023 and beyond. There's also the frightful pairing of Hargrave and Arik Armstead, who is one of the league's most underrated defensive tackles.
In all, the 49ers just put themselves right back at the top of the Super Bowl contender conversation with one simple move.
