The San Francisco 49ers have already lost several assistant coaches in the wake of Super Bowl 58, but they reportedly made a new hire to their staff on Thursday.

San Francisco, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, is hiring Cameron Clemmons to be their assistant offensive line coach.

Clemmons had previously spent four seasons with the Raiders. He was an offensive quality control coach in 2020 before working as the assistant offensive line coach for Las Vegas for the last three campaigns.

Clemmons replaces James Cregg, who left his post as the assistant offensive line coach to become the offensive line coach for the Raiders.

Prior to his time with the Raiders, Clemmons worked with the Tennessee Volunteers at the collegiate level from 2016 to 2018, helping oversee the development of guard Trey Smith and tackles Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris. Smith and Morris were each part of the Kansas City Chiefs team that defeated the 49ers in the Super Bowl, while Wright was drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bears in 2023.

In 2023, the Raiders ranked sixth in the NFL by blown block rate in pass protection, per Sports Info Solutions.

By contrast, pass protection was a clear problem for the 49ers, who were 23rd in the NFL by the same metric, with Brock Purdy continually forced to operate from muddy pockets in the Super Bowl.

The offensive line is an area of concern for the 49ers going into the offseason. Hiring Clemmons appears to be a good start to addressing it.
