For the last two seasons in primetime games in Seattle, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward has confounded Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.

In this year's Thursday Night Football clash at Lumen Field, the 49ers will not have All-Pro Ward on the field to defend Metcalf.

Ward, having been listed as questionable going into the game with a knee injury, was named among the 49ers inactives after going through an unconvincing pregame workout.

The former Kansas City Chief struggled in last week's shock defeat to the Arizona Cardinals, and his presence on the injury report for Week 6 made it clear he was not fully healthy in that game. Now, he gets the chance for an extended rest ahead of a Week 7 Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs.

49ers inactives

  • QB Joshua Dobbs
  • TE Brayden Willis
  • OL Ben Bartch
  • DL Jordan Elliott
  • LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
  • CB Charvarius Ward
  • K Jake Moody

Darrell Luter Jr. takes Ward's place on the active roster, but rookie second-round pick Renardo Green will likely play significant snaps in Ward's absence. Green could start in the slot, but the more probable plan for the 49ers will be for him to play outside on nickel downs, allowing Deommodore Lenoir to kick inside.

The absences of Elliott (knee), Flannigan-Fowles (calf) and Moody (ankle) were already known. Wide receiver Chris Conley was questionable with an oblique issue that saw him miss Week 5, but the veteran is healthy enough to make his return.
