49ers' recent draft selection Jake Moody has a nickname he has rightfully earned
Kicker Jake Moody earned an interesting nickname for the very reason teams were trading up to select him.
Jake Moody is a Michigan legend for his timely and clutch kicks. It is the very reason why a number of teams were trading up in the third round to get their hands on him.
But, in Moody's college career, the kicker earned the moniker "Money Moody" for his reliability in big-time moments and routine kicks.
He was 65-of-74 (87.8 percent) in his college career from inside 50 yards and has posted a perfect 148-of-148 mark on extra point attempts.
At first, it was a head-scratching move why the Niners would select a kicker so early in the draft. But 49ers general manager John Lynch offered insight into the fact that San Francisco wasn't the only team willing to do whatever it took to have Money Moody on the roster.
"I can tell you, since then, a lot of teams have called and said, you know, shortly thereafter they were going there," Lynch said during an interview with KNBR's Murph & Mac Show, via NFL.com. "And in fact, teams tried to trade up to get in front of us. So, [it's] something we feel really good about. Time will tell, as it will with all these guys. But we think he [Moody] has the makings of a cornerstone, foundational-type player for years to come and we're proud to have him."
But, if Moody turns into an immediate impact kicker, the 49ers will look like one of the smartest teams in the league. In college, Money Moody's best kick came against TCU, when he hit a 59-yard field goal.
The Niners drafted him to do more of the same at the professional level.
