49ers playmaker Jauan Jennings makes terrifying reveal about current injury situation that proves his commitment to the team
The wide receiver is not afraid to tell the truth about himself.
Injuries are always a part of the NFL game. For the San Francisco 49ers, though, they are beat up on both sides of the ball in a way that nobody could have truly predicted ahead of the season. One of their best offensive playmakers is pushing through the pain right now, though. With that, he’s proving how much he cares about his team and their success.
Jauan Jennings says he’s playing with ankle sprains and broken ribs
In postgame availability, the 49ers wideout revealed multiple painful ailments that he is dealing with at the moment. Jennings is playing through high and low ankle sprains, hurt shoulders, and five (!!) broken ribs, according to the veteran pass catcher.
Jennings has always played with relentless effort and tenacity. He’s never shied away from contact, even at a position that can include some scary hits from defenders. This statement is incredibly important, though. The 49ers are dealing with a ton of key injuries, and Fred Warner joined that list in Week 6.
A to Z Sports Vols writer Craig Smith gave his thoughts about Jennings’ toughness from his time at Tennessee.
“Jauan Jennings had a nickname in Knoxville that’s appropriate for his NFL career, too: dog (or dawg). Because he’s just a tough, hard nosed player who played aggressively and with a chip on his shoulder. But that toughness goes beyond just a competitive spirit, as he’s managed to gut out bumps and bruises with the best of them. At Tennessee, a dislocated wrist early in 2017 cost him the season, but he appeared 11 games in 2015 and every game in 2016, 2018, snd 2019 for the Vols. He’s appeared in 15+ regular season games in 3 of his first 4 NFL seasons (13 in 2023).
While it’s eye-opening for any player to say they’re playing through the nature and number of injuries that Jennings is dealing with, if there’s any former Vol that Tennessee fans would say could do it, it would be him.” — Craig Smith, A to Z Sports
Jennings is trying his absolute best to stay available for his team who needs him in San Fran. He is banged up, but that isn’t stopping him from producing on the field and being a leader in the locker room. Extremely notable. Jennings was forced out of the loss against Tampa Bay in Week 6 after one catch for seven yards.
Not to mention, San Francisco is without tight end George Kittle and wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Brandon Aiyuk due to injury. The team has also started backup QB Mac Jones recently, with Brock Purdy dealing with multiple injuries, too. Purdy may return soon, but that isn’t a given at the moment.
Regardless, Jennings isn’t backing down from the challenge and rigor of playing in the pros with injuries mounting. Instead, he’s doing everything he can to help the 49ers get wins. Fans should appreciate that in a major way.
