One of the San Francisco 49ers' worst nightmares looked to be unfolding in last week's defeat to the Cleveland Browns as both Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel left the game with injuries.

But since that happened the noises on both have been largely positive, and that continued on Thursday as Shanahan provided an update in his Thursday press conference ahead of the Monday Night Football clash with the Minnesota Vikings.

None of the issues for McCaffrey, Samuel (shoulder) or All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams were reported to be long-term concerns, but there was some doubt over the exact nature of the injury to their do-it-all running back.

The injury was initially listed as rib/oblique, and McCaffrey underwent an MRI to assess the problem on Monday. Had it been confirmed as an injury to both areas, McCaffrey likely would have faced a more complicated recovery.

However, Shanahan revealed ahead of Thursday's practice that it is solely an oblique injury for McCaffrey, who like both Samuel and Williams is considered day to day.

It had previously been reported that all three have a chance to play against the Vikings.

Asked if he expected the trio to feature in primetime, Shanahan kept his cards close to his chest, replying simply: "Not today."

Earlier this week, Samuel raised hopes he will be able to feature in Week 7, telling 'Up and Adams' that his shoulder injury already felt 'way better' than it did last Sunday.

The 49ers are 6.5-point favorites to bounce back from their first defeat of the season with victory over Minnesota.
