For the San Francisco 49ers, Monday officially marks the start of a new season.

It's time to forget the agony of their overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 and start the long journey back to that stage.

The Niners are one of 25 teams that begin their offseason workout program on Monday.

It starts with phase one, two weeks in which activities are limited solely to meetings, strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation.

Phase two follows for the subsequent three weeks and includes on-field workouts.

Drills, either individual or group, can be conducted at walkthrough pace. Live contact and offense versus defense drills are not permitted.

That changes during phase three, the final four weeks of the workout program. Ten days of OTAs are allowed, and these can feature 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, though live contact is still off the table.

The entire workout program is voluntary, except for the mandatory minicamp that takes place during phase three at the beginning of June.
