The San Francisco 49ers may have found a hidden gem in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

San Francisco selected TCU linebacker Dee Winters (great name) with the No. 216 overall pick (round six).

Winters has been pegged by most draft analysts as a special teams player/backup linebacker. That's mostly due to concerns about Winters being undersized.

Outside of the size concerns, the 49ers are getting a versatile linebacker that can play inside or outside. Winters, who had 7.5 sacks last season at TCU, is also a great blitzer and has been described as one of the most explosive downhill linebackers in the nation.

Players that are productive in college but aren't selected until later in the draft usually have some type of flaw. Winters' "flaw" is his aforementioned size.

At worst, the 49ers are getting a key special teams player that excels at doing the little things that aren't noted in the box score. At best, the 49ers are getting a game-changing linebacker who can make life hell for opposing quarterbacks.

In other words, it's a great late-round selection by San Francisco.
