The San Francisco 49ers' Week 6 game with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday marked a sixth straight game without first-round pick Ricky Pearsall.
Pearsall, the 31st overall selection in this year's draft, was the victim of an attempted armed robbery in San Francisco in August.
He was shot through the chest but, despite incredibly avoiding any damage to his organs and nervous system, has spent the entire season on the non-football injury list.
That looks set to change next week.
On Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football broadcast, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that Pearsall will finally return to practice next week.
That would potentially put him in line to make a long-awaited debut in the 49ers' Week 7 Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs.
With Jauan Jennings making a hot start to the season and Brandon Aiyuk getting back to his best in the Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers don't necessarily need Pearsall back to jump start their season.
But as an emotional boost for what will surely be an emotionally charged game against the Chiefs, his return could be extremely useful.
