It's been a week for the 49ers to celebrate after they finally signed Nick Bosa to a contract extension on Wednesday, and they'll look to cap it off with a road win over the Steelers in the season opener.

Their odds of doing so with Bosa cleared to play despite only featuring in one team practice ahead of the Week 1 clash, though two starters remain in doubt to face Pittsburgh following the release of the 49ers' final injury report.

Injury report observations

George Kittle, dealing with a setback he suffered in preseason, would be a huge loss to the 49er offense both for his play in the receiving game and as a blocker, with right tackle Colton McKivitz facing an extremely tough assignment against T.J. Watt. However, speaking on KNBR on Friday, general manager John Lynch expressed optimism Kittle will play.

Ambry Thomas will likely step in at the other starting cornerback spot if Charvarius Ward cannot go, though Shanahan suggested on Thursday that it is not an injury that will keep him on the sideline.

Talanoa Hufanga missed Thursday's practice with a personal matter but will partner Tashaun Gipson at safety having dealt with a Baker's cyst, a build-up of fluid behind the knee.

The injury report provides a huge boost of the special teams, with rookie kicker Jake Moody cleared to try vindicate his third-round status after a shaky preseason. On top of that, kick returner Ray-Ray McCloud is set to return to face his former team just four weeks after breaking his wrist.
