The bye week, and the addition of Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers' defensive front, predictably did a lot of good for Nick Bosa, so much so that the reigning Defensive Player of the Year added another award to his collection.

Bosa was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his excellent performance in the 49ers' dominant 34-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, which ended a three-game losing streak.

Thriving as a rejuvenated defensive line given substantial extra firepower by the arrival of Bosa's former Ohio State teammate Young took over the game, Bosa recorded 1.5 sacks. He split one with Young, forcing a fumble from Trevor Lawrence in the second quarter that Bosa recovered.

Bosa also batted a pass down and in doing so became the fourth 49er since 2000 to record a sack, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the same game.

Now he has become only the second 49er to win Defensive Player of the Week five times, following in the footsteps of four-time Pro Bowl safety Merton Hanks, a key member of the last San Francisco team to win the Super Bowl back in 1994.

Continually creating pressure but struggling to get home, Bosa had only three sacks during a frustrating first half of the season. After taking much of that frustration out on the Jaguars and reminding the NFL just how destructive he can be, it would be no surprise to see Bosa produce a string of displays that net more league-wide recognition as the Niners look to surge down the stretch.
