The San Francisco 49ers have gotten more than they could have ever expected out of the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but they might not get much more out of their first in his second year.

San Francisco placed Drake Jackson, their second-round pick last year, on injured reserve on Saturday ahead of the Niners' Week 10 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jackson now faces at least four weeks on the sideline before he can be activated back to the 53-man roster.

He has three sacks this season, but they all came in the Week 1 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jackson has struggled to create consistent pressure since and has seen his playing time gradually decrease.

He likely would have been the odd man out in the edge rush rotation following the 49ers' trade deadline acquisition of Chase Young in a deal with the Washington Commanders. Though Jackson can return, the reality in both the short and the long term is that a player the 49ers hoped could develop into a starter is set to be little more than a backup who can only deliver sporadic pass rush production.

In a corresponding move, the 49ers promoted cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles to the active roster from the practice squad. Jean-Charles had reached his limit of three practice squad elevations this season but now can provide some much-needed depth as the Niners' fifth corner.

San Francisco promoted two players to the gameday roster from the practice squad, with linebacker Curtis Robinson and receiver Willie Snead IV elevated to face Jacksonville.

Robinson's elevation means Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles' ankle injury will likely see him miss out. Snead's promotion is more curious as all the 49ers' receivers are healthy going into Sunday's crucial game.

Both Robinson and Snead have now reached the limit of three elevations.
