The San Francisco 49ers swept the Philadelphia Eagles aside at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, and their new status in the NFL power rankings is reflective of the emphatic nature of that win.

San Francisco didn't just squeak by the Eagles in a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game, the Niners absolutely obliterated them in a 42-19 thrashing that served as complete vindication of their status as road favorites for that heavyweight fight.

In the NFC, the 49ers trail the Eagles by one game in the race for the one seed, but in Sports Illustrated's power rankings, San Francisco has no superior.

The 49ers leapfrogged the Eagles into top spot courtesy of their dominant performance, with SI's Conor Orr writing:

I was watching a long George Kittle catch-and-run with rapt attention on Sunday thinking: who is going to tackle that guy in January? The 49ers have four players who are like that; four skill position players who have the ability to break a team’s spirit, compared to maybe two on every other team. This is not unknown news, but the closer we get to the playoffs, and after a physical beatdown of the second best team in the NFL, we are realizing what a disappointment it would be if the 49ers did not win the Super Bowl.

The betting odds reflect Orr's feelings, with the 49ers the favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy for the sixth time in franchise history.

Even after crushing the Eagles, they might still have to go back to Philadelphia again to repeat the feat to get to the Super Bowl. The Eagles' soft finish to their schedule gives them a potential advantage in the race, but the 49ers won't be daunted by the prospect of doing battle once more in the postseason after showing themselves to be the superior team entering the stretch run.
