Brock Purdy was an impressive QB in his rookie season, but Pro Football Focus wasn’t that impressed.

Brock Purdy shocked the NFL world when he went from Mr. Irrelavent to the starter of the San Francisco 49ers while the team stormed to the NFC Championship game.

Part of Purdy's intrigue was wrapped in the reality that he wasn't expected to be as consistent as he was in the 2022 season. But though Purdy burst onto the scene, Pro Football Focus wasn't impressed with what he brought as the starter.

In PFF's recent quarterback rankings, Purdy was slotted as the 23rd-best quarterback in the league.

Take a look at what the writers at PFF had to say about Purdy's ranking:

"Purdy passed for 8.3 yards per attempt last season in his run as the starter — more than Patrick Mahomes and every quarterback in the league other than Tua Tagovailoa — but he attempted just 233 passes in an offense we know to be a virtual cheat code for production. It would be wrong to dismiss his success altogether — he was better than players like Nick Mullens who also had success in that offense — but it would also be crazy to overreact to such a small sample size, even outside of the risk associated with the UCL surgery Purdy had on his elbow."

Though Purdy is by no means an elite quarterback, it feels somewhat disrespectful to place Kenny Pickett and Mac Jones directly ahead of him.

Purdy did everything a quarterback should do: Play sound football, not turn the ball over, and win. That is hard to say for both Pickett and Jones. Yes, those two quarterbacks possess a larger game sample size, but that doesn't always indicate that they are the better signal caller.

What is clear is that PFF wasn't impressed with what Purdy brought to the table. And if he is healthy come the start of the season, Purdy will have ample time to prove the ranking wrong.
