The San Francisco 49ers are once again champions of the NFC West.
San Francisco clinched a second successive division title with a 45-29 win over the Arizona Cardinals in which Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes.
It is the first time the Niners have won the division in back to back years since the 2012 campaign, when they did so under Jim Harbaugh. San Francisco went to the Super Bowl in that season but lost 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens.
More importantly in the big picture, the 49ers' win keeps them in the driver's seat for the number one seed at 11-3.
The win saw San Francisco sweep the Cardinals for the second successive year, though it was their first victory at State Farm Stadium since the 2020 campaign. Last year's road game against the Cardinals took place in Mexico City.
It also saw San Francisco record a 12th straight victory in the division.
San Francisco faces a huge test of its Super Bowl credentials in Week 16, as the Niners face the AFC's current top seed, the Ravens, on Christmas Day.
49ers nearly had to relive their worst nightmare with Brock Purdy
They were left to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
