Brock Purdy appears to be the clear MVP frontrunner after another excellent performance that saw the San Francisco 49ers clinch the NFC West with a blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Purdy threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns in the 49ers' 45-29 win over the Cardinals, which kept the Niners in the driver's seat for the number one seed at 11-3.

His display came as his apparent main rival for the MVP, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, had just 134 yards passing and an interception in their road loss to the Buffalo Bills.

But asked about his MVP hopes, Purdy provided a response that served as the best argument against him winning the award in his first full season as the 49ers' starter.

"I'm honored, but I think I have a great team around me and guys willing to make plays and stuff. I’m trying to do my part and help our team win," said Purdy.

"I'm honored to hear it, but I think we just have an MVP team overall."

There is no disputing that Purdy's production is outstanding. He has 3,795 yards passing and leads the league with 29 pass touchdowns. Purdy is also the best quarterback in the NFL by every yards per attempt metric as well as passer rating and QBR.

But he benefits from the best supporting cast in football, one which is choreographed by the NFL's pre-eminent offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan.

The simplest illustration of the massive firepower Purdy has at his disposal is the fact that the 49ers are on pace to have four players finish with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.

Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk have already achieved that feat. Deebo Samuel is 41 yards from joining them, with George Kittle 133 yards shy of four figures.

Yet two of Purdy's four touchdown passes came on throws of at least 20 air yards or more. Yes, the supporting cast is stacked, but Purdy's ability to create out of structure and deliver with accuracy downfield is what is elevating the offense to a level nobody expected, and that is why he probably will be the man crowed the league's most valuable player come Super Bowl week in Las Vegas.
