The 49ers have suffered a couple of injury blows at wide receiver in recent weeks, and they turned to a former second-round pick to compensate.
With Danny Gray following Ray-Ray McCloud in suffering an injury that will likely see him miss the start of the season, the Niners are signing Anthony Miller, according to Jordan Schultz of The Score.
Miller was the 51st overall pick of the Chicago Bears in 2018.
He scored seven touchdowns in his rookie season for the Bears and had a career-high 656 receiving yards a year later.
However, Miller has never come close to producing at the same level since, with subsequent spells with the Texans and the Steelers seeing him feature in just three games.
Even with the injuries to Gray and McCloud, Miller is unlikely to stick around long with the Niners after being signed so late in preseason with limited time to learn the offense and make an impression.
Still a strong performance in the Niners' preseason finale could convince them to put him on the practice squad or attract the attention of other teams in need of help at receiver.
The 49ers confirmed on Monday that they had signed running back Brian Hill and waived defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile. Hill's arrival comes after Jeremy McNichols suffered an adductor injury in Saturday's preseason win over the Broncos.
