LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The San Francisco 49ers are starting their Super Bowl practice week with a significant boost.
Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Wednesday that both tight end George Kittle and defensive tackle Arik Armstead returned to practice in a limited capacity.
Kittle did not practice last week because of a toe injury, while Armstead was held out because of foot and knee issues that have persistently plagued him since the 49ers' Week 13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Shanahan displayed precious little interest when asked about Kittle's injury last week, indicating it was a very minor concern. Kittle previously described it as a "lower extremity injury".
Armstead's presence on the injury report was more of a reason for worry, but his return could be crucial for the 49ers in attempting to disrupt Patrick Mahomes, especially with Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney considered a long shot to play.
The 49ers' longest-tenured player, Armstead has nine pressures in the postseason since returning from injury. If can add to that tally with significant disruption of Mahomes on the grandest stage, he could prove to be key a reason why the Niners take home the Lombardi.
