One of the San Francisco 49ers' best players just stuck up for one of his Super Bowl rivals. This age and era of football take rivalries a little differently than in the past. The Chiefs and 49ers are rivals because they played in the Super Bowl, and there was some great trash talk from both teams.
But, some players from both teams are friends, like Travis Kelce and George Kittle. They are very good friends and, in fact, host a tight end camp in the offseason together. During that camp, Kittle actually took up for Kelce in a debate.
"Well, he led the, you know, he led tight ends in YAC (Yards After Catch) last year. So I don't think it's possible to say that he [runs soft]. No, I don't think he runs soft," Kittle said when asked if Kelce runs soft.
"No, there are times and places where you can run out of bounds or stay in bounds, and sometimes he decides to go out of bounds, but like he's 32, 33 [years old], and maybe that's just what's best for him. And the Chiefs is to not pick up two more yards and to play the next play. So you agree, he's making a lot of business decisions while running. Look, Travis literally led the league in YAC, so he's fantastic."
I guess fellow tight ends have to stand up for each other.
These are the two best in the league at their position. Kittle respects what Kelce has done so far and knows that he is one of the best of all time. The thing is, Kelce would do the same thing.
