The Raiders added to their running back room ahead of the second joint practice with the 49ers, and it's a face San Francisco won't be too happy to see.

Las Vegas signed Damien Williams on Friday, giving him the chance to prove his worth against the Niners on the practice field and in Sunday's preseason clash.

For the 49ers, Williams' presence is an unwanted callback to the most painful memory of the Kyle Shanahan era. Williams scored two touchdowns against the Niners in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV as the Chiefs erased a 20-10 deficit and won 31-20.

Williams is one of only three players to score two fourth-quarter touchdowns in a Super Bowl, per Josh Dubow of The Associated Press. He caught a five-yard pass to put the Chiefs ahead 24-20 and then scored a 38-yard rush to seal the game for Kansas City.

Now he may soon be receiving hand-offs from a player whose hopes he dashed, with San Francisco's starting quarterback in that game, Jimmy Garoppolo, now QB1 of the Raiders.

Williams has faced the 49ers just once since that game. He was on the losing side in 2021 as the Niners beat the Bears 33-22 in Chicago. After signing for the Falcons for the 2022 season, Williams was inactive for Atlanta's surprise win over San Francisco in Week 6.

Nothing he does on the practice field or in Sunday's exhibition will live long in the memory but, for the 49ers, his arrival is an unwelcome reminder of a collapse they would rather stay at the back of their minds.
