One of the strengths Brock Purdy displayed during his stunning emergence last year was an ability to throw under fire.
Back on the practice field after elbow surgery, it's clear that's a trait he has not lost.
Purdy had his best practice of training camp on Tuesday, completing nine of his 11 passes in the team period.
The pick of those completions came on a touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings, whom Purdy found in the back corner of endzone.
He did so with a beautifully lofted ball dropped into the bucket, delivering with poise and touch despite defensive end Alex Barrett bursting into the backfield for a would-be sack.
Barrett's success in getting pressure on Purdy served as a continuation on a theme of this training camp, the defensive line dictating the battle with their counterparts on the offensive side of the trenches.
That is a concern from an offensive standpoint, but the 49ers can at least afford to have confidence in Purdy's proclivity for making big-time throws when things collapse around him.
Last season, no quarterback in the NFL with at least 50 pass attempts under pressure had a better positive player rate on those throws than Purdy, per Sports Info Solutions. The 49ers quarterback had 42.9 percent of such passes produce positive Expected Points Added.
Sustaining that over the course of a full season will be a challenge for the former seventh-rounder, but throws like Tuesday's beautiful ball to Jennings should raise hopes of him doing so.
