Trey Lance: Mistreated and misunderstood, the 49ers blow an opportunity with a young QB

There was a point in time when Trey Lance was looked at as the future of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback position.
And then the Niners found the next new shiny toy and threw Lance to the side shortly thereafter.
Queue the "I don't want to play with you anymore" meme from Twitter. Or should I say Threads? Ahh, who knows?
Regardless, Lance hasn't been given a fair shot to be the Niners' starting quarterback. In fact, I dare say that the Niners only love Brock Purdy so much because he played in half the team's games in the 2022 season.
If Lance got the same opportunity, the organization would be coronating him as the quarterback of the future.
Lance is still talented. He is still an uber-athletic quarterback who can make plays happen in more ways than one.
It's why it never made sense as to why the Niners would bring in Sam Darnold. It is almost like they want to watch Lance run while they keep tripping him and then blame him for tripping.
At some point, the organization must figure out how to manage the quarterback position. Their inability to do so is harming Lance and all he could be as a starter in the NFL.
Remember, the Niners chose Lance. Lance didn't choose the Niners. The team sat him during his rookie season. And thereafter, they gave him the keys to be the starter. And then Lance got hurt.
And as quickly as the Niners fell in love with Lance, they forgot about him because Purdy game-managed his way to wins on a loaded roster. It isn't hard to imagine Lance doing the same thing had he stayed healthy.
The only consistent thing coming out of San Francisco regarding the quarterback position is one truth: The Niners have no idea what they are doing when it comes to picking and settling on a franchise quarterback.
Trey Lance was on the wrong side of the “best play” in 49ers minicamp
The 49ers quarterback made a huge gaffe during the second day of minicamp.
