Jerry Rice and Frank Gore aren't the only San Francisco 49ers legends with a chance to see their son follow in their footsteps with the franchise.
Terrell Owens' son Terique, who spent his college career at Missouri State, worked out in front of 20 NFL scouts at Missouri's pro day on Friday.
Among those scouts were representatives from the 49ers, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, the team with whom his Hall of Famer father initially made his name.
News of the 49ers watching Owens' workout comes after it was reported they have scheduled a top-30 visit with Rice's son Brenden, who is set to be drafted after a prolific 2023 season with USC. The 49ers met informally with Frank Gore Jr. at the NFL Combine.
Terrell Owens spent his first eight NFL seasons with the 49ers, racking up five 1,000-yard seasons with San Francisco and being named a first-team All-Pro three times before his acrimonious exit.
Terique Owens enjoyed a strong day as he looks to plot his own path at the next level. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, but more impressive was a vertical leap of 38.5 inches, putting him in the 82nd percentile for wide receivers, and a broad jump of 10ft 4in (69th percentile). Reportedly measuring at over 6ft 1in, Owens boasts a blend of size and explosiveness akin to that of his father.
Whether he'll come close to reaching anywhere close to the same heights is another matter.
In his final season with Missouri State, Owens had 28 catches for 528 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 18.9 yards per reception.
That production at the FCS level may not be enough to get him drafted. However, after a strong pro day, he appears to have improved his hopes of making an offseason roster and, with San Francisco having been in attendance, maybe we'll soon see the name Owens back in a 49er jersey 20 years on from his dad's departure.
