The San Francisco 49ers were left to deal with their worst loss since the 2018 season in Week 12 as they slumped to a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
An injury-hit 49ers team consistently shot itself in the foot in a game crucial to their dwindling playoff chances.
It meant the 49ers suffered their largest defeat since a 39-10 home defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, one that leaves their postseason chances hanging by a thread.
Indeed, per The Athletic, the 49ers' latest defeat shrunk the 49ers' playoff chances to just 11 percent.
Prior to their chastening afternoon at Lambeau Field, the 49ers had a 21 percent shot of making the postseason.
While they are only game back of the NFC West lead in a crowded division, their odds of winning the division for a third straight year are now only eight percent, with the Niners' path narrowing because they do not hold any tiebreakers over their division rivals.
The New York Times' playoff simulator projects an even bleaker picture, giving the 49ers just a seven percent shot at postseason football.
That would improve to 14 percent with a win over the Buffalo Bills in primetime next week.
But with the oddsmakers understandably making the Bills heavy favorites for that matchup, the chances of San Francisco turning its season around are looking increasingly unlikely.
Week 13 brings unwanted end to a long wait for 49ers that is a perfect reflection of how their season is going
It’s the first time since 2020.
