Even though they didn't have a pick until the third round, but they still had nine picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers still drafted a guy who seems to be doing some pretty impressive things during OTAs.

After Jimmy Ward left, as some saw happening before it ever did, we all knew the 49ers would be targeting a safety in the draft. They ended up taking Ji'Ayir Brown, the safety from Penn State with their first pick, and he is already surprising some people.

"That's my locker mate," Brandon Aiyuk said on rookie Ji'Ayir Brown. "So I've been talking to him, I've been watching him, looking out for him. We got him today and I've been telling him we are going to get him today or one of these days, but he's been, he's done a great job. He's got like, I don't know, three or four picks already through, these first couple of days. So I like him. I like him a lot.

He got a couple, he had a couple of tip-ball balls. I was in a few plays actually where he had a pick, so I'm not sure. But a pick is a pick. So we want that regardless. I know a lot of people who leave picks out there. So, and he actually left one out there so he might have had even had five. So, but he's going to, he's getting to the ball as a safety, so we love to see it."

Now, of course, let's not go too crazy and say he is going to be a Pro Bowler because he has five picks in OTAs, or whatever. No, we can't do that because this is OTAs, where no one wears pads, and no one is tackling or being too aggressive. However, at the same time, to have only a few practices under your belt and have picked off five passes, or how many ever it was, is impressive.

In college at Penn State, Brown had four interceptions in 2022, where he was aggressive when the ball was thrown his way. Another reason the 49ers like him so much was because of his versatility. At Penn State, he played 59 snaps on the defensive line, 111 snaps in the slot, seven snaps at corner, 157 snaps in the box, and 345 snaps back deep all in 2022. He can literally do it all, well, he did in college.

Keep an eye on what you hear from OTAs about the 49ers' number-one draft pick in 2023. he could be something special.
