San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday that he had no update on the Brandon Aiyuk contract negotiations.
But a subsequent report suggested the 49ers are edging closer to finally ending their long impasse with their All-Pro wide receiver.
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reported that the 49ers held another meeting with Aiyuk on Monday.
Schultz added that there has been movement on a deal, but there remain some minor details that still require ironing out, with the approval of ownership.
In short, Schultz's report is very similar to that of NFL Network's Mike Garafolo last week, which stated that the major components of a deal had been agreed but that there was a disagreement between the two sides over the final year of the contract.
The report from Schultz indicates that the green light from 49ers owner Jed York is all that is separating San Francisco from finally ticking the task of getting Aiyuk tied to a long-term deal off the to-do list.
Such a report would indicate that a resolution is finally on the horizon.
But if there's one thing that has become clear during these elongated and fractious negotiations, it's that it is risky to assume anything is close to being finalized in a saga that has dominated the entirety of the 49ers' offseason.
