The 49ers got good news on the injury front to start their short game week as they prepare for a Thursday Night Football clash with the Giants.

The major concern had surrounded wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who fought through a shoulder injury during last Sunday’s Week 2 win over the Rams.

Monday’s estimated practice report said Aiyuk would not have practiced had the Niners held a session.

However, head coach. Kyle Shanahan said ahead of Tuesday's half-speed practice that both Aiyuk and cornerback Ambry Thomas, who suffered a knee injury in Los Angeles, would be limited.

Aiyuk was then seen practicing during the portion of the session open to the media.

The fact he practiced does not guarantee Aiyuk will feature in the primetime clash and, given the quick turnaround, it could be considered a risk to play him against the Giants after he sustained an injury that required consistent treatment during the Rams game.

But facing a Giants team led by a quarterback in Daniel Jones whose dual-threat upside could pose significant problems for the 49er defense, San Francisco may be particularly keen to ensure all its weapons are available to ensure its attack can fire on all cylinders.

Add in the 10-day gap between the home opener and the Week 4 meeting with the Cardinals, and the 49ers might be willing to take a little bit of a chance with one of the premier pass-catchers provided the trainers are confident his shoulder can hold up.

Aiyuk was held to three receptions for 43 yards against the Rams in large part because of his injury. He was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 1 after catching eight passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
