Brock Purdy's third season in the NFL has been substantially more difficult than his second.
After spending most of 2023 as the MVP frontrunner and then going within a play of winning Super Bowl 58, Purdy has found success harder to come by in 2024.
San Francisco's 38-13 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday kept the 49ers' faint playoff hopes alive, but at 6-7 they have fallen well below expectations.
While Purdy hasn't produced the same statistical consistency as he did last season, the emphatic victory over the Bears saw him achieve two feats no quarterback can claim to match.
Purdy went 20 of 25 for 325 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He finished with a passer rating of 145.4.
It marked his sixth career game with a passing rating of 140-or-higher, surpassing Ed Brown (five games from 1954-56) and Frank Filchock (five games from 1939-40) for the most such games by a quarterback in his first three seasons in NFL history.
In addition, he also became the first quarterback in league history to register 13 career games with a passer rating of 120-or-higher in his first three seasons. In doing so, he surpassed Russell Wilson (12) for the most games in such a span.
For the 49ers, the 2024 season looks likely to be one they will be keen to forget, but there's no doubt the opening three years of Purdy's career have given the former seventh-round pick plenty to celebrate.
