The 49ers have expressed great confidence in Brock Purdy throughout training camp following offseason elbow surgery. His performance in Saturday's preseason game with the Broncos suggested their faith is justified.

Indeed, if there were any concerns about Purdy's ability to bounce back from the torn elbow ligament he suffered in last season's NFC Championship Game, they should have lessened after his one series against Denver.

Purdy, helped by play-calling from Kyle Shanahan that emphasized getting him outside the pocket, looked composed and confident as he went four of five for 65 yards.

In typical 49ers fashion, much of that yardage came after the catch from Deebo Samuel, who looked extremely explosive as he looks to bounce back from what the wide receiver described as a "sluggish" 2022.

But Purdy's drive also featured a superb throw on the move to Jauan Jennings, one on which he layered the ball over a defender after rolling to the left and flipping his hips to find the wideout for an 11-yard gain.

A red zone sack was the main blemish for Purdy, whose seven-yard scramble on the subsequent third down set up a 20-yard chip shot for Jake Moody.

Though the 49ers would ideally have liked to end the drive with a touchdown, they saw everything they needed to from Purdy in terms of looking sharp in live game action and surviving a big hit from Jonathon Cooper on the sack.

As such, that one series might be the last we see of Purdy in preseason.
