Brock Purdy has not yet practiced three days in a row following his return from offseason elbow surgery, but the 49ers quarterback has now been cleared to get that chance.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed in a Monday conference call that Purdy would no longer have scheduled days off that have been a staple of his preparations for the new season to this point. Purdy will therefore get the opportunity to see how his surgically repaired elbow responds to such a workload.
"Yeah, that's off," Shanahan said of Purdy's rest day, per 49ers Webzone. "So he'll get to go the three practices in a row this week."
All signs are that there should be no negative impact of Purdy dropping the day off. The 49ers have expressed great satisfaction with his arm since he made his return to the field just under three weeks ago.
For a player whose participation in the season opener against the Steelers was in doubt, Purdy's progress has been rapid and, should he make the transition to the more intense schedule with no setbacks, the only remaining test will be to reproduce the 2022 performances that catapulted him to the starting job during the 2023 season.
It isn't clear whether the wider NFL world will get a chance to see Purdy test himself in a game prior to the regular season. Purdy did not feature in the 49ers' preseason loss to the Raiders on Sunday and Shanahan has yet to confirm if he will play in Saturday's home game with the Broncos.

The difference is obvious to see.
