As expected, quarterback Brock Purdy will make his return for the San Francisco 49ers after missing last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury.
Purdy was confirmed as active for a critical primetime matchup with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football after practicing in full on Friday.
The one surprise on an inactives list dominated by injured players concerned Purdy's backup.
All season long, Joshua Dobbs has been the emergency third quarterback among the inactives, save for last week when he was number two to Brandon Allen in Purdy's absence.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was complimentary of Allen's performance in the shorthanded 49ers' blowout loss to Green Bay. However, he has decided to make a change in the order of his backups, promoting Dobbs to No. 2.
Allen was listed as the emergency third quarterback on the inactives list, which otherwise features six players who had all previously been ruled out through injury, including All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and former Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa.
49ers inactives
- LT Trent Williams (ankle)
- DE Nick Bosa (hip, oblique)
- CB Deommodore Lenoir (knee)
- LG Aaron Banks (concussion)
- DT Jordan Elliott (concussion)
- LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (knee)
- QB Brandon Allen
