Brock Purdy has the support of the most important people in the building for the 49ers, but it's fair to say there are those away from the team who still have doubts he is the answer for San Francisco at quarterback.

However, 49ers Hall of Famer Steve Young, the last quarterback to win a Super Bowl with the Niners, sees little reason Purdy cannot lead San Francisco to glory following the remarkable start to his pro career.

"Can he be great? Yes, I believe he can be great," Young told KNBR (h/t 49ers Webzone). "And can he win Super Bowls? Yes, I believe he can win Super Bowls, especially with this roster, with this team, and where they are."

Purdy is somewhat diminutive for a quarterback at 6ft 1in and his arm is not on the level of backups Trey Lance and Sam Darnold.

Young, though, pointed to Purdy's decisiveness as the factor that makes him the best fit for head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

"Brock has limitations. Everyone does, I guess, at some level, but Brock has limitations. But he does things that don't expose it. He's so quick getting the ball out. He's so smart. He understands the game in such a unique way. … The ball comes out, it spits out in a great spot. And that's why Kyle loves him. Kyle loves him because he's been begging for someone that he can call any play and get a trustworthy result. And that's why—what did you say? He's the real deal. Kyle didn't say that just as a joke. He really loves him for that reason."

Purdy's proclivity for getting the ball out quickly, often under heavy fire, was a key feature of his incredible 7-0 run in games he started and finished across the regular season and the playoffs after he replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo as starter.

His decisive decision-making was in stark contrast to hesitancy former third overall pick Trey Lance displayed in the preseason opener on Sunday, likely only increasing Shanahan's faith he is following the right path at the game's most important position.

The 49ers might already have a Super Bowl with Purdy at quarterback if not for the elbow ligament injury he suffered in the NFC Championship Game against the Eagles.

Purdy's subsequent surgery has left the final pick in last year's draft needing to prove himself all over again to the wider NFL world over the course of a full season.

But his speedy recovery from his offseason surgery has imbued the 49ers with belief in their starting quarterback, and it is faith shared by the man who led San Francisco to its fifth Super Bowl triumph way back in the 1994 season.

With a loaded roster at his disposal, the pressure is firmly on Purdy to help deliver a sixth, and he'll start his mission to vindicate San Francisco's confidence when the Niners face a tough road game in Pittsburgh in Week 1.
