Last year, Brock Purdy had to don a Hawkeye head after his alma mater Iowa State lost to Iowa, a friendly wager with San Francisco 49ers teammate George Kittle going the way of their All-Pro tight end.

On Wednesday, however, the tables were turned.

Having seen his beloved Hawkeyes lose to Iowa State on a last-gasp field goal in Cy-Hawk Trophy on Saturday, it was Kittle who found himself on the wrong end of this year's bet.

Purdy loudly celebrated the Cyclones' dramatic triumph at home on Saturday, and he had the perfect forfeit for Kittle ahead of practice as players met with the media in the locker room.

Kittle made good on the bet, wearing Purdy's old Iowa State helmet as he spoke to reporters.

Asked how quickly Purdy reached out following the game, Kittle replied: "He texted me the score instantly, I said 'thank you, Brock, you ruined my whole weekend.'"

Kittle revealed that, had Iowa hung on, Purdy would have had to wear his helmet from his college career with the Hawkeyes.

Instead, Purdy got the taste of revenge, with Kittle left to face questions while dealing with the smell and the tight fit of his quarterback's old headgear.

A good sport and man of his word, Kittle can take solace in the fact the two great rivals have alternated victories over the last four Cy-Hawk Trophy games. For the sake of avoiding more embarrassment, he'll be hoping that streak continues.
