Brock Purdy hasn't missed a start because of injury in his San Francisco 49ers career. It would appear that is about to change.
Purdy was not present at the section of practice open to the media on Friday as the 49ers prepare to face the Green Bay Packers in Week 12.
The 49ers quarterback did not throw on Wednesday because of shoulder soreness and left Thursday's practice after throwing just a few passes and receiving some treatment.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch sounded contrasting tones in recent days when asked about Purdy's potential availability for a crucial game for the 49ers' dwindling playoff hopes.
But Lynch's more downbeat assessment, which saw him call Purdy's chances of playing "tenuous" in an interview with KNBR, would appear to be the more accurate one.
Purdy missing practice does not necessarily mean he won't give it a go at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
The 49ers could simply be giving Purdy as much rest as possible in order to have him in the best possible shape for the rematch of last season's Divisional Round playoff matchup.
But the fact Purdy has barely been able to throw all week points to a quarterback in poor shape for the challenge of winning on the road in chilly conditions. The signs are not good for Purdy, and his seemingly increasingly likely absence will lead to talk of this being the beginning of the end of a disappointing 49ers season.

He struck a contrasting tone to Kyle Shanahan.
