Brock Purdy keeps reaching new heights in a spectacular first full season as the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback, and he achieved another first on Wednesday.
Purdy was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 11.
That accolade follows a spectacular performance during the 49ers' 27-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Purdy completed 21 of his 25 pass attempts for 333 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Purdy made history in that game, becoming only the third quarterback in 49er franchise history to record a perfect passer rating of 158.3, joining Steve Young and Joe Montana in a very exclusive club. Young and Montana both posted perfect ratings within a month of each other during the 1989 season, which ended with the Niners winning the Super Bowl.
Only the third quarterback under the age of 24 to register a perfect rating, Purdy has provided the 49ers with another good omen as they look to end a long wait for a sixth Super Bowl title.
Purdy is the first 49ers quarterback to win Offensive Player of the Week since Jimmy Garoppolo, who did so in Week 14 of 2019 after leading San Francisco to a 48-46 shootout win over the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome.
That season of course ended with the 49ers in the Super Bowl, though Garoppolo fell short as San Francisco surrendered a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead in a 31-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Through his first 18 starts (regular and postseason), Purdy has shown the ability to elevate the 49er offense to heights Garoppolo couldn't reach, and hope he can lift the Niners to the ultimate glory is increasing after his latest standout showing.
George Kittle is once again the NFL’s top tight end
He has plenty of reasons to smile.
