Christian McCaffrey has made a habit of etching his name into the history books since joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

His first start following his trade from the Carolina Panthers, in which he became the first 49er to score a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown and throw for a touchdown in the same game, set the tone for a career with the team in which he has made a habit of achieving firsts.

McCaffrey's 14 rushing touchdowns last season were the most in a single campaign by a 49er, while his run of 17 straight games with a touchdown (regular season and playoffs) stretching back to 2022 tied the NFL record set by Lenny Moore.

His efforts in winning the rushing title with 1,459 and leading the league as the only player with over 2,000 scrimmage yards (2,023) last year in a season that saw him finish tied for the league lead in total touchdowns (21) earned McCaffrey the Offensive Player of the Year award. McCaffrey became the first 49er running back since Roger Craig in 1988 to achieve that feat.

But no 49ers player had ever been the sole cover star on the Madden NFL video game, that was until McCaffrey received that honor earlier this offseason.

And another first was added to his resume on Tuesday as it was revealed McCaffrey had joined Madden's '99 club', becoming the first 49er running back to receive a perfect 99 rating for the game.

It is the second time in his career McCaffrey has received the perfect rating.

As recognition of that achievement, EA Sports gifted McCaffrey a gold controller adorned with the 49ers logo, as well as a framed print of this year's Madden cover.

McCaffrey was very appreciative of those gifts, but the only hardware he'll have his eyes on in the 2024 season is the Lombardi Trophy the 49ers went so close to winning in the Super Bowl in February.
