Deebo Samuel never really came close to matching his All-Pro performance from 2021 last season, and his dip in production in 2022 has seen the 49ers receiver drop way down the list of NFL's Top 100.

After racking up 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns two seasons ago, Samuel was ranked 19th in the top 100, voted for by his fellow NFL players.

Injuries and what Samuel described as "sluggish" performances prevented him from reaching those heights last year, even as the 49ers surged to a 13-4 record and an NFC West title before reaching the NFC Championship Game.

A campaign that saw him post 864 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns in the regular season led to Samuel dropping 42 places to No. 61.

So far, he is the third 49er to appear on the list, following linebacker Dre Greenlaw (No. 79) and All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga (No. 78).

Samuel vowed never to put anything resembling his 2022 performances on tape again and said on Wednesday that he is in his best shape since the 2019 season, when the 49ers reached the Super Bowl.

The challenge for Samuel is to transform that offseason conditioning work into production. One of the game's most versatile and devastating playmakers won't be so far down next year's list should he make good on his promise of a 2023 rebound.
