The 49ers have made no secret of the fact they believe they would have beaten the Eagles had Brock Purdy not sustained a torn elbow ligament on the first offensive series.

It's not a surprising assertion given the confidence all NFL players typically have in their own abilities and, more pertinently, the success the 49ers enjoyed when they had a healthy Purdy at quarterback.

Still, those comments have been questioned repeatedly throughout the offseason, and star wide receiver Deebo Samuel has clearly had enough.

Back in February, Samuel claimed the 49ers would have defeated the Eagles by double digits had Purdy stayed healthy.

He was asked about that claim in an interview with Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio.

But Samuel had little time for the line of questioning.

"I dunno that’s old," Samuel replied when asked about that previous assertion.

Pressed on whether he still believes the 49ers would have won comfortably, he said: "I dunno just wait until Week 13 or whatever, we’ll show you."

Gelb then followed up by talking about the frosty reception the 49ers will almost certainly receive when they visit the Eagles in a title game rematch in Week 13, prompting Samuel to hand the phone to his representative monitoring the call, who brought the interview to a close.

It could be considered a bad look not to continue with the interview, but it's little surprise Samuel does not want to keep reliving a painful and frustrating day during which the Niners believe they were robbed of any realistic chance of reaching the Super Bowl in the opening minutes.

But, as the two standout rosters in the NFC, the 49ers and the Eagles appear to be on the precipice of what could quickly become a fascinating rivalry.

This latest episode in the offseason back and forth about what might have been back in January will likely only add fuel to the fire.
