In a game Kyle Shanahan said he "didn't enjoy by any means", arguably no 49ers player endured a worse outing than rookie kicker Jake Moody.
Under substantial external scrutiny after the 49ers spent a top-100 pick to acquire him and his massive leg, Moody wilted in the face of the preseason spotlight.
Moody missed both his field goal attempts in the loss to the Raiders, sending efforts of 40 and 58 well wide of the uprights. Back in practice on Tuesday, however, he was back to the form that attracted the 49ers to him in the first place.
Per ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Moody excelled as the 49ers ran several 'fire drills', where they ran a quick play before running the field goal team on. He went five of six with makes from 59, 38, 56, 53 and 39. His lone miss was from 60.
Speaking after the Raiders game, there was no indication Moody had lost any confidence, and Shanahan expressed confidence in him.
His performance in practice suggests that belief is well-placed, but many will remain skeptical until they see Moody deliver in a game situation.
