Jauan Jennings has become renowned in the 49ers' building for delivering in the clutch.
The wide receiver's pro career to this point has been defined by his ability to make tough catches on third down and in situations where the pressure is at its highest.
But it appears he has another talent beyond his skills as a wide receiver. Jennings seems to have a knack for thinking of nicknames, as he bestowed a new one on his quarterback on Thursday.
Asked about Brock Purdy, who may feature in a game for the first time since tearing an elbow ligament in the NFC Championship Game when the 49ers face the Broncos in Saturday's preseason clash, Jennings said:
"I checked up on Brock every now and then during his recovery, and it's been going great. And that's all I kept hearing. And seeing Brock come out there, it meant a lot to see what he's going through. And now he's back out there throwing it. You know, Brock Star. We love him out there. "That goes for all the quarterbacks, though. They're all out there competing against each other, making each other better each day. We've seen all three quarterbacks make great throws."
It remains to be seen whether that nickname will stick but what is likely to remain is the 49er quarterbacks' faith in Jennings, who recorded a catch on 85 percent of his third-down targets in 2022, a ratio that put him 14th among pass catchers with at least 25 such targets, per Sports Info Solutions.
Should he maintain that kind of efficiency in those situations in 2023, Jennings could play a significant role in Purdy securing 'Brock Star' status.
