Joshua Dobbs will look to help the San Francisco 49ers finish a disappointing season on a high against the Arizona Cardinals.
And the Niners' backup quarterback, in for the injured Brock Purdy, got a significant dose of good news before kickoff that will aid his cause.
All-Pro tight end George Kittle (ankle/hamstring) and right tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) were both listed as questionable for the game.
But both were left off the inactives list and cleared to play in the Week 18 matchup, meaning Dobbs will have the benefit of having the 49ers' best offensive weapon available, along with a key starter on the offensive line.
Had McKivitz been ruled out, the 49ers would have had to start both Charlie Heck and Austen Pleasants, signed only last month, at tackle. Instead, they will choose between that pair for the left tackle spot. Both players spent time there in Monday's loss to the Detroit Lions.
Cornerback Isaac Yiadom (pelvis) and safety Ji'Ayir Brown (ankle) are also active having been listed as questionable.
Yiadom will likely have a significant role to play against Arizona due to the absence of cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, who is out with a shoulder injury.
Lenoir has spent the entire season rotating between outside corner on base downs and the slot on nickel downs. Rookie Renardo Green will be expected to take on that dual responsibility for the finale, with Yiadom likely to play outside on base downs along with Charvarius Ward.
49ers’ Jauan Jennings pays a heavy price for play that summed up who he is ahead of bid for new milestone
It encapsulated his playing style.
