The San Francisco 49ers have been without Trent Williams for each of the last four games, and Kyle Shanahan admitted it is looking increasingly likely he will not play again this season.
His last appearance coming in the surprise Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Williams will once again miss Wednesday's practice ahead of the 49ers' matchup with the Miami Dolphins as he struggles to shake off an ankle injury.
And, with the 49ers all but out of contention for the playoffs, Shanahan conceded Williams' 2024 might be over.
Asked if it is getting to the point where Williams may not play again this campaign, Shanahan told a press conference: "If he could get back to healthy we'd play him, but it's not like that right now so it's getting closer to being that way."
Along with Williams, rookie running back Isaac Guerendo will also miss practice, Shanahan confirmed, having suffered a hamstring injury in last week's defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
There was better news from Shanahan when he revealed that linebacker Dre Greenlaw would be limited in practice. Greenlaw returned last week from the Achilles injury he suffered in last season's Super Bowl but left the game in the third quarter with soreness in that area and in his knee.
Nick Bosa will also be limited in the session following his return from hip/oblique injuries that kept him out for three games prior to the Rams loss.
Rookie safety Malik Mustapha looks primed to return from the chest injury that sidelined him for Week 15 after being listed by Shanahan as limited. Jaylon Moore, who continues to fill in at left tackle for Williams, will be limited with a hip issue.
49ers’ Week 16 matchup with the Dolphins receives treatment it definitely does not deserve
It’s a bizarre decision.
